Man Ray
Man Ray’s photography became especially well known due to his innovative methods of manipulating photographs.
Whether it was by using photograms, which produced dramatic contrasts, or drawing in clever details over photographs such as in “Le Violon d’Ingres,” his images conveyed a dream-like feeling that was very unique and surreal. His unique style of black and white photography makes the images very mysterious yet exaggerates the tones used in the photograph. I find his work very inspiring as he relies on adjusting the contrast to make the subject of the photograph so exaggerated and powerful. His art included painting, sculpture, film, prints and poetry, and in his long career he worked in styles influenced by cubism, futurism and surrealism. |
